The park is named after Larry O'Donnell, a prominent Curlwaa man. Mister O'Donnell worked tirelessly for the good of the settlement and its industries, particularly those of dried fruits, water and salinity issues.
In the park also is a monument erected in 1959 to thank and recognise all those who worked tirelessly to save Curlwaa from inundation of the 1956 flood waters.
